Drywall Repair in Queen Creek and the East Valley, AZ

Why Choose State 48 Painting Company for Drywall Repair?
A lasting drywall repair depends on more than filling the visible defect. State 48 Painting Company checks for moisture, loose gypsum, failed tape, missing backing, framing movement, and texture differences before defining the repair. The written scope identifies removal, reinforcement, compound, texture, primer, paint, and cleanup so the finished result is clear.
Founder Mike Mendoza started as a painting helper and later ran production for one of Arizona’s largest painting companies. He founded State 48 Painting Company in 2015 to put craftsmanship ahead of volume. That experience matters because drywall repairs are judged under paint, light, and texture, not while the joint compound is still wet.
What the written drywall scope should identify
Damage type: The proposal states whether the work covers an impact hole, nail pop, access cut, failed seam, stress crack, ceiling damage, water-damaged panel, loose tape, or texture defect.
Cause and limits: Paint and joint compound do not stop plumbing leaks, roof leaks, active condensation, framing movement, termite damage, or structural settlement. Those causes must be corrected before the repair is closed.
Repair method: Small defects may need filling and feathering. Larger openings require sound backing or panel replacement. Failed seams need loose material removed and the joint reinforced again.
Finish level: The scope identifies whether the repair includes smooth finishing, orange peel, knockdown, another existing texture, primer, spot painting, or repainting the full wall or ceiling.
Warranty: Covered materials and labor carry a five-year warranty.

What Drywall Problems Do We Repair?
Our drywall repair service covers common wall and ceiling damage, including impact holes, dents, anchor holes, plumbing and electrical access cuts, failed seams, loose tape, settlement cracks, ceiling damage, water-stained sections, and texture mismatch. The repair method changes with the defect, panel condition, framing, moisture, and finish.
Holes, dents, and anchor damage
Door handles, furniture, wall anchors, moving damage, and accidents create defects that range from shallow dents to openings through the panel. Small defects may be filled and feathered. Larger holes need the damaged edge squared, sound backing installed, and a matching drywall piece fastened before the joint is finished.
A patch without proper support may flex, crack around the edge, or sit proud of the existing wall. The backing and fastener layout matter as much as the compound.
Plumbing and electrical access cuts
Plumbers, electricians, HVAC technicians, and low-voltage installers often cut drywall to reach pipes, wiring, valves, ducts, and framing. State 48 Painting Company closes those openings after the underlying trade confirms its work is complete and ready to cover.
The repair should preserve access where a serviceable panel is needed. Drywall should not permanently conceal a valve, junction, cleanout, or component that must remain accessible.
Cracks, failed seams, and loose tape
A crack may come from joint failure, framing movement, truss uplift, temperature change, settlement, vibration, or repeated moisture. Loose tape and compound must be removed back to a sound edge before the joint is reinforced and feathered.
Filling a moving crack with surface compound alone usually creates a temporary cosmetic fix. Wide, displaced, recurring, or rapidly changing cracks need further evaluation before repair.
Ceiling drywall repair
Ceiling damage commonly appears around light fixtures, plumbing lines, roof leaks, attic work, access cuts, and failed joints. Ceiling repairs require secure backing, careful joint finishing, and wider feathering because overhead light makes humps, ridges, and texture differences easier to see.
Sagging, wet, soft, or detached ceiling panels require prompt assessment. Drywall repair is not a substitute for correcting a roof, plumbing, HVAC, or framing problem.
Water-damaged drywall
Water-stained drywall must be evaluated after the moisture source is stopped. Sound, fully dry material may only need stain control and refinishing. Soft gypsum, swollen panels, delaminated paper, crumbling edges, persistent odor, or concealed contamination may require removal.
Visible staining often understates the affected area. State 48 Painting Company repairs drywall after the leak or moisture source has been corrected.
Texture matching
Texture matching is a visual blending process, not a one-product step. The crew evaluates the existing pattern, density, size, direction, previous paint buildup, and surrounding light before reproducing orange peel, knockdown, or smooth finishes.
A small patch may need texture extended beyond the joint so the transition is less visible. Exact invisibility cannot be guaranteed on every aged, heavily painted, hand-applied, or previously repaired surface.
Our Detail-Oriented Drywall Repair Process
Our drywall repair process follows a controlled sequence: inspect, identify the cause, protect the room, remove unsound material, add backing, install drywall, tape, finish, dry, sand, texture, prime, paint, and verify. The written scope states which steps apply because a nail hole and a water-damaged ceiling do not require the same repair.
1. Inspection and written scope
We inspect the visible defect, surrounding panel, seams, fasteners, texture, paint sheen, and nearby moisture signs. Water stains, recurring cracks, soft drywall, sagging ceilings, and displaced joints are not closed until the underlying concern is understood.
The estimate defines the repair area, access, protection, finish, paint limits, and conditions that could change the scope after damaged material is opened.
2. Preparation and dust control
Floors, furniture, fixtures, vents, counters, and nearby surfaces are covered or isolated as the work requires. Cutting and sanding are controlled with localized containment, extraction tools where appropriate, and cleanup between stages.
Drywall repair creates fine dust. The professional standard is controlled dust and thorough cleanup, not a promise that no dust will exist.
3. Remove unsound material
Soft drywall, loose paper, failed tape, crumbling compound, unstable edges, and damaged panel sections are removed back to sound material. The opening is shaped so the patch can be supported and fastened correctly.
The crew does not bury wet gypsum, loose tape, or weak edges beneath new compound.
4. Install backing and replacement drywall
Larger openings receive wood backing, framing support, repair clips, or another approved support method based on size and location. Replacement drywall is matched to the existing panel thickness when practical and fastened so the face sits in the correct plane.
Fire-rated assemblies, garages, shared walls, and special moisture conditions may require specific board types and assembly details.
5. Tape and finish the joints
Joints are reinforced with compatible tape and joint compound. Multiple finish coats are applied as needed, with each coat widened and feathered to reduce ridges and visible buildup.
Drying-type and setting-type compounds behave differently. Product choice depends on repair depth, schedule, humidity, temperature, and finish requirements. A fixed four-hour cure promise is not accurate for every compound, thickness, or jobsite condition.
6. Sand and match the texture
The repair is sanded after the compound reaches the required condition. Work lights and touch are used to find ridges, pinholes, scratches, or proud edges before texture is applied.
Orange peel, knockdown, and smooth finishes require different tools, material consistency, pattern control, and blend areas. Texture is allowed to dry before primer or paint.
7. Prime, paint, and complete the walkthrough
New compound and exposed drywall paper are porous. Primer seals the repair and reduces flashing, uneven sheen, and visible absorption differences. Resolved water stains may require a compatible stain-blocking primer.
Spot painting works when the existing paint, color, sheen, age, and lighting allow a reasonable blend. Repainting the full wall or ceiling creates the most uniform appearance when the surrounding coating has faded, aged, or cannot be matched.
The final walkthrough checks the repaired plane, texture transition, primer or paint coverage, cleanup, and written scope.
East Valley drywall often shows stress at seams, ceilings, access cuts, and areas affected by plumbing leaks or monsoon moisture. We match the repair method to the panel, framing, texture, and paint condition, then allow each compound, texture, primer, and coating stage to dry before the next step.
What Should Happen Before Water-Damaged Drywall Is Repaired?
The water source must be stopped before drywall is closed. The affected area must then be evaluated for moisture, panel strength, paper condition, staining, odor, and damage beyond the visible mark. Repairing wet or contaminated material traps the problem and increases the chance of recurring stains, odor, coating failure, or further deterioration.
Plumbing leaks, roof leaks, HVAC condensation, appliance leaks, irrigation intrusion, and window or door failures require the appropriate trade. State 48 Painting Company repairs the drywall after the source is corrected and the area is ready to close.
A dry stain on firm drywall is different from soft, swollen, sagging, delaminated, or crumbling material. Suspected mold, sewage, contaminated floodwater, or widespread concealed damage requires qualified assessment and remediation before cosmetic reconstruction.
Resolved water stains may bleed through standard primer and finish paint. A compatible stain-blocking primer is applied only after the source is corrected and the repair is dry.
Pricing and Estimates
Drywall repair estimates depend on the damage type, opening size, location, ceiling height, access, panel thickness, backing, number of affected areas, moisture condition, texture, primer, paint limits, and protection requirements. State 48 Painting Company provides a written scope after inspecting the repair rather than relying on a generic price by hole size.
